Fat Stigma Study hits the press.

By Samantha Thomas, November 11, 2011

We recently published our study into Fat Stigma in Australia in the journal Social Science and Medicine.

Today I got to do some press on Australian telly about the study and thought you may like to see it.

Would love your comments. It is about 1 minute 50 into the segment. Click here to go to the segment.

  1. Lisa Reeve says:

Ouch, SO MANY headless fatties in that news report. It was fine to listen to, but painful to watch. Such a contrast between the positive messages you were communicating, and the dehumanising images of fat torsos that seem to be stock footage shown during every tv story about fat people.. I would’ve also liked to see some mention of Health at Every Size, and acknowledgement of the idea that fat people can be healthy.

Ricki-Lee’s commentary seemed to imply that she is fit because she lost weight, and other people will be able to do that too, when the time is right for them.

It’s good progress to see the discussion taking place, but there’s still a way to go.
